Team Parker Racing is pleased to announce that Matt Armstrong has become the first driver to sign with the team for this year’s Porsche Sprint Challenge GB, of what is expected to be a multi-car entry into the series.
Matt has previously competing in the Motorsport UK British Kart Championships, and joins his father, Justin – who races in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and claimed a class win in the British GT Championship’s Silverstone 500 – at Team Parker Racing.
The team has raced in the Carrera Cup since it was launched in 2003, with the new Sprint Challenge a logical series for the team to expand its racing activities while providing a clear pathway for those who aspire to progress through the motorsport ranks. A key part of Porsche’s Pyramid of Motorsport in the UK, the one-make series uses the brand’s Cayman 718 GT4 Clubsport.
The programme will be led by 2003 Carrera Cup GB champion Barry Horne, who as Team Manager for Team Parker Racing’s Porsche Carrera Cup GB line-up oversaw a remarkable 2020 season in which the team claimed the Pro, Pro-Am, Am, and Team titles, taking 13 wins out of the 16 races.
After a maiden outing with Charlie March at the final round of last season’s Sprint Challenge GB, the team is eager to get started on a full year of racing in the series, alongside its existing commitments in the Carrera Cup GB and other plans, yet to be announced.
The 2021 campaign is set to get underway at the high-speed Thruxton in Hampshire, alongside the British Touring Car Championship, over the weekend of May 8 & 9.

“I’m excited about this season and can’t wait to get out on track in the Cayman. I expect I’ll struggle at first as it’s a pretty big jump from karting to the Sprint Challenge, but I hope I make good progression over the season. I’m going to do some Caterham races before the first round of the Sprint Challenge, and maybe a race in the Cayman too, so I won’t be starting the championship without any experience. My dad is going to race with me in a Caterham in the spring, as well as against me in one, so he’d better not beat me!
“Longer term we want to be in a position where we can race together as father and son, so hopefully we can enter something like the British GT Championship. He really enjoyed doing a race in it last season, plus he is now on the game Assetto Corsa, which he thinks is pretty cool!”
