KCMG targeting victory in 24 Hours of Spa return

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) is set to take on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit at the 2022 TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa on 28-31 July, competing for a fourth successive year at the famous Belgian enduro.

After achieving their best-ever result of fifth place in 2021, the team returns as a Porsche-supported entry for a third consecutive time, with 2020 winners Laurens Vanthoor and Nick Tandy joining Dennis Olsen at the wheel of the #47 Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Vanthoor and Olsen finished on the podium during KCMG’s debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, while the Norwegian also drove alongside Tandy at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in May. The Hong-Kong based squad will sport a new blue, black and white livery for the event.
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is known as one of the most formidable racetracks in the world. With high-speed corners such as Eau Rouge, Pouhon and Blanchimont, the 7.004-kilometre blast through the Ardennes Forest makes the 24 Hours of Spa one of the toughest events on the endurance racing calendar. The continuous threat of ever-changing weather conditions will be sure to keep drivers and teams on their toes, with sudden downpours always a possibility.
The squad enjoyed two strong days of running at the Official Test last month, going third fastest on the first day and topping the timesheets on the second, completing over 100 laps in the process.

“The 24 Hours of Spa is always an important event for me as it’s my only home race all year. It’s also one of the four big 24-hour enduros on the calendar, and the last one this season. We’ve been really close to success as a team so far this year, and I think it’s time to go one step higher and get the victory at Spa. It would be a little bit of redemption for Daytona after just missing out on the win there in January, so we’ll be aiming to do our best. The test went really smoothly, and we have all the ingredients to go for a big result. It’s going to be a long week and a challenging race, but we’ll do our best and target the podium.”

“Spa is a classic test of man and machine, for 24 long hours. I’ve been lucky enough to finish inside the top five at the previous three editions of this event, and the aim this year is to improve on our fifth-place with KCMG in 2021, and go for the win. The weekend is one of the toughest on the calendar because the circuit is so demanding, plus there are so many cars out there, all usually with the same pace. Mix in the famous weather that can come and go in Belgium and it makes this week one of the most challenging of all.”

“We had a great Official Test last month and everything went smoothly throughout the two days. Spa is a special race where anything can happen in terms of weather, but we have a great team behind us to make the right calls at the right times. I’m really happy to be sharing the car with Nick and Laurens, two extremely experienced and fast drivers, so I can’t wait to get started!”

“The 24 Hours of Spa appears to be looking much more straightforward than our previous event at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, but in reality it’s every bit as difficult. As a GT3-only race, there are many more competitors and the action on-track is always a lot closer, but after our best finish of fifth in 2021, we are fully focused on the top step this weekend. The test in June was successful and once again we have one of the best driver line-ups on the grid. With the potential we’ve shown together so far this season as a team, we’ll be looking to challenge for the outright win. We’re working really hard to be at the sharp end of the grid, and to finally deliver on the promise we’ve displayed in 2022.”

“I’m really excited to see KCMG return to Spa-Francorchamps for the 24-hour race. It’s our fourth time taking on the event, and our third with support from Porsche, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve this weekend. With each year we have been improving and after our best finish of fifth in 2021, I’m confident we can aim for victory this time around. We’ve got a very strong line-up with Laurens, Nick and Dennis, three drivers we know very well and who have competed with us already in 2022. The mechanics and engineers have been working tirelessly to be in the best shape possible for the upcoming weekend, and this was reflected in our strong performance at the Official Test. We’re ready to give it everything and target the top step of the podium.”
