Timex Expedition: Cheap and cheerful

I quite often visit a local watch store, not always to buy, just for a chat as the owner and staff  have got to know me quite well over the last few years. Of course they show me things they have in stock, hoping I’ll buy.

A few weeks ago when I was in there, at the back of the store was a watch that caught my eye. A pilot style looking watch, clear and easy to tell the time on from a distance, and a very low price. It was a Timex Expedition on sale for £40. For that sort of money, never expect too much.

It has a 38mm resin case, though it seems to look and wear smaller. With its quartz movement that makes it very light to wear. Don’t expect a sapphire crystal on a watch at this price, it’s acrylic. Full Arabic numeral on  the Black dial. It comes on a velcro strap, which I’m not too keen on, so I might change it to a NATO to see how it looks. A 100 meters water resistance is very good. I can safely do the washing up while wearing this.

I was wearing it last night, while I was taking a look at the Timex website, and came across the specs for it. Light up watch dial, I didn’t know it had that, call me stupid, I don’t care. So I pushed the crown in, and was so impressed at how well it lights up. It puts watches like the Casio F-91W to shame.

I’m very pleased with this purchase, it goes to show that you don’t have to spend big money to get a watch to enjoy. Other than the strap, is there anything else I would change on it? If the name could be changed from Timex to Rolex, and the model from Expedition to Explorer, for £40 I’d be well pleased.
