Discounts: Do you ask?

This will just be a short post about discounts on watches. I always ask for one, and expect to get one. Some people I know just don’t like asking. With some brands like Rolex, it’s almost impossible to get one, that doesn’t mean you can’t ask for some Rolex branded gear the AD might have.

The shopping centre I go to has more than one store selling the same brands, like Omega and Tissot. Go to all of them, play them against each other to get the best deal. If one offers 10% off, check the other to see if they’ll do a better deal.

Many stores offer 0% interest. If you the customer isn’t paying any interest to the finance company, who is? It must be the store. The way I look at it, if you’re paying cash, that interest they would have been paying to the finance company should always be available to you as a discount.

Never be afraid to ask, and if they offer a low discount push for more. I was once told that in retail, watches only come second to jewelry in profit margins, a lot of profit for the retailer.

To me it doesn’t matter if it’s a fairly low cost watch at £40, I still want to pay less so I ask for a discount. If you’re buying something a lot more expensive like an Omega costing over £5,000 you can save yourself hundreds of pounds just by asking.

Of course, don’t expect one on waiting list watches, and hard to get new releases.
